How The Rover (blog.therover.dev) handles visitor information.

Last updated

The Rover (the "blog") handles visitor information with care and processes only the minimum it needs.

What we collect

The blog has no sign-up. The only information visitors enter themselves is when they leave a comment.

  • Comments: we store your nickname, comment text and the time you posted, and show them under the post. The password you set for deleting your comment is stored only as an irreversible hash. To prevent flooding, we also store a hash of your IP address instead of the address itself; it is never shown. Comments are kept until you delete them with your password or ask us to remove them.
  • Bot check: when you comment, Cloudflare Turnstile checks browser signals to block automated posting. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to that processing.
  • Visit statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people read which posts. It uses no cookies and does not identify visitors; it processes only aggregate information such as the page visited, the referring page, the browser type and an approximate country.
  • Browser storage: to remember your light or dark theme, we save a single theme value in your browser's localStorage. It stays on your device and is never sent to a server.
  • Server logs: our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may process standard access logs such as IP address, access time and browser information for security and operations.

Email

If you contact us by the email on the contact page, we keep your email address and message to reply and delete them without delay once that purpose is met.

Posts link to external sites so you can check sources. Those sites' own privacy policies apply to them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will post the new version here and update the date above. Before adding services such as advertising, we will describe what they collect and why on this page first.
