Editorial standards
How The Rover picks topics, checks sources, uses AI tools and corrects mistakes.
Last updatedEvery post on The Rover is written and corrected under the standards below. When they change, we update the date on this page.
Sources
- Primary sources first. We check where the information first appeared: official docs, the original author's post, announcements and filings.
- At least two sources for every post. They are listed with links under "Sources" at the end, and claims that need support are linked in the text as well.
- Dates for numbers that change. Prices, rates and schedules carry the date they were checked.
Facts and interpretation
- Sentences make clear what is confirmed and what is our own reading or forecast.
- Anything not yet final is labeled for what it is, such as "planned" or "according to reports".
- Every post opens with five key points and ends with frequently asked questions. The key points only contain what the text and sources confirm.
How we use AI tools
- We use AI tools to gather topics, organize material and write first drafts.
- A person reviews the content and sources before a post is published. Facts that the sources do not confirm are left out, even if an AI wrote them.
- Covers and in-post figures are drawn only from numbers and steps that appear in the text.
Authors and pen names
Author names are pen names for each beat. They are not real people, and we do not invent photos or careers for them. We use them so each beat keeps a consistent perspective and voice; see About and each author page for the beats.
Corrections
- When we find or are told about a mistake, we check it, fix the text and update the date at the top of the post.
- We separate wording fixes from factual changes, and when a fact changes we say in the post what was corrected.
- Report mistakes on the contact page.
Advertising and conflicts of interest
The Rover currently has no ads, sponsorships or affiliate links. If that changes, we will say so on the affected posts and on this page, and advertisers will not decide what a post says.
